VANESSA R. BUTLER was born and grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. Her visual arts talent emerged at a very early age prior to entering school. Her teachers praise her drawing and art works. Later in high school she became known for her acting craft as well. She however received an academic scholarship to attend Carnegie Melon University in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in visual arts. She attended CMU and earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts although her first love was acting.
After working for a year as an arts administrator in Sacramento California, Vanessa received her actor training from California Institute of the Arts, where she graduated in 2012 with an MFA. She has performed roles from Shakespeare to Suzan-Lori Parks’ productions in Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Connecticut. A few of her most recent credits are: Romeo & Juliet (Juliet) with Capitol Classics Theater, Freedom: in 3 Acts with Bated Breath Theater Company, Higgins In Harlem (Clara Hill) and Theater Uncut Festivals with Playhouse on Park, Khalas (Sierra) with Collective Consciousness Theater and multiple HartBeat Ensemble original performances for social change.
